Doncaster Danum Scouts is delighted to launch its new District YouShape Team, bringing together young people aged 16 to 25 from across the district to help shape the future of Scouting.
Created by our District Youth Leads, the team is another step in our commitment to making Scouting truly youth shaped, ensuring young people have a genuine voice in the decisions that affect their programme and experiences.
The YouShape Team will work with both young people and adult volunteers to encourage more youth led decision making, helping groups place young people’s ideas at the heart of everything they do. By listening to different views, sharing good practice and supporting leaders, the team will help create even more exciting, relevant and engaging Scouting opportunities across the district.
Over the coming months, members of the YouShape Team will be visiting Scout Groups across Doncaster Danum. During these visits they will meet with young people and volunteers, hear about their experiences, gather ideas and celebrate the fantastic programmes already being delivered. These visits will help the team better understand what matters most to young people and identify ways to strengthen youth shaped Scouting across the district.
The launch of the team also marks the beginning of a number of exciting new initiatives. These will include the introduction of YouShape Boxes, packed with practical ideas and resources to help groups involve young people in planning and decision making, alongside district wide YouShape Days where young people can come together to share ideas, influence Scouting and begin working towards their YouShape Award.
The team will also champion the YouShape Award across the district, recognising the brilliant work already taking place in groups and encouraging even more young people to get involved. In recognition of its importance, YouShape Awards will be celebrated alongside the district’s top awards at the annual District Award Presentation Nights.
