The summer holidays are here, but that doesn’t mean your Scouting adventure has to stop!

One of the key requirements for the Chief Scout’s Challenge Award in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts is completing the Personal Challenge Award. To help you achieve it, we’ve highlighted these fantastic four week Personal Challenge booklets for each section, which can be completed at home during the summer holidays.

Whether you’re a Beaver, Cub or Scout, there’s a booklet designed especially for your section, with challenges that are appropriate for your age and programme. The activities encourage young people to set a personal goal, learn a new skill, help at home, get active or spend more time outdoors.

Completing your Personal Challenge Award is another step towards achieving the highest award available in your section, so why not make the most of the summer holidays and tick it off before you return to Scouts?

Need some inspiration?

Your Personal Challenge is all about setting yourself a goal and sticking with it over four weeks. Every challenge will be different, but here are a few ideas:

  • Read a book every week.
  • Learn to ride a bike.
  • Go for a family walk each week.
  • Learn to cook a simple meal.
  • Grow a sunflower or vegetables.
  • Help around the house every day.
  • Improve at your favourite sport.
  • Learn a new skill, instrument or hobby.
  • Spend more time exploring the outdoors.

Remember, your challenge should be personal to you. Choose something that stretches you and that you can achieve over the four weeks.

How to submit your completed booklet through OSM

If your Group uses Online Scout Manager (OSM), you can submit your completed booklet online for your leaders to review.

  1. Log in to OSM.
  2. Click Badges from the menu on the left.
  3. Select Completable at Home.
  4. Find the Personal Challenge Award and click Complete at Home.

Your leaders will review your submission as soon as they have a few spare minutes over the summer or when your section returns after the holidays.

Not using OSM yet?

Many Scout Groups use Online Scout Manager (OSM) to allow young people to submit badge work from home using the Badges at Home feature.

If your Group doesn’t currently use OSM, don’t worry. Simply bring your completed booklet along to your first meeting after the summer holidays and hand it to your leaders.

Whichever way you submit your booklet, we can’t wait to see everything you’ve achieved over the summer.

Good luck, have fun and keep your Scouting adventure going!
