Doncaster Danum

The District is made up of 24 Scouts Groups (which includes a Air Scout Group recognised by the Royal Air Force), A Young Leader Unit, 6 Explorer Scout Units and a soon to have a District Network provision which cater for young persons from the age of four until twenty five.

Our origins

Doncaster was a result of the merger of Doncaster North, South, East and West Districts. The District stretches from Finningley and Thorne in the East, to Mexborough in the West, Askern in the North to Bawtry in the South with locations in, Sprotbrough, Bessacarr, Edenthorpe and Rossington in between.

Our members

Doncaster Danum is one of the larger district’s in South Yorkshire, catering for young people between the ages of 4 and 25 with a total membership of around 1,300 (and growing).

Scouts

Scouting in the UK provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for half a million young people (including 60,000 girls). Internationally over 28 million young people and 4 million adult volunteers enjoy the benefits of Scouting across 216 countries.

What we do

In Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life and young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing,’ when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. As a District we support our groups and units to encourage local young people to do more, learn more and be more. Each week, we support our members by providing the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed!

Our Facilities

We have several facilities in Doncaster:

  • Squirrel Wood – on the outskirts of Owston which offers both camping and indoor residential sleeping facilities together with an on-site Archery range, campfire circles, Tomahawk Throwing, Shooting and Indoor Caving.
  • District Scout Shop – located in Bentley.  sells a wide range of uniform for all sections, neckers, books, certificates, other items and training materials as well as being the local provider of all Scout badges.
  • Doncaster Sailing Association (Barnby Dun Lake) – is used by Scout Groups across the District for canoeing and kayaking. The lake provides a safe, controlled environment that is ideal for both introductory sessions and skills development.
  • District Scout HQ – The Doncaster Danum Scouts District Headquarters is located above the District Scout Shop in Bentley, providing a central and accessible base for Scouting across the district.
