More than 60 young people from across Doncaster Danum District recently took part in our annual Archery and Shooting Competitions, representing their Scout Troops and Explorer Units in two fantastic days of challenge, skill and friendly competition.

The events brought together Scouts and Explorers from across the District, giving them the opportunity to test their abilities in both archery and target shooting while meeting other young people who share a passion for adventure and trying new things.

Competitors earned points in both disciplines, with combined scores contributing towards overall individual and team awards. Trophies were presented for first, second and third place in both archery and shooting, alongside overall team awards recognising the best all round performances.

A new addition for 2026 was the introduction of separate Scout age categories, with awards presented for both under 12s and those aged 12 and over. The change proved popular and helped create an even more balanced competition.

While there were some outstanding individual performances throughout the weekend, the real highlight was the atmosphere created by the young people themselves. Competitors encouraged one another, celebrated successes and showed excellent sportsmanship throughout both events.

These competitions are about much more than accuracy and scores. They help young people develop confidence, resilience, focus and determination while providing opportunities to represent their Troop or Unit and be part of something bigger.

District Lead Volunteer David Plant said:

“Seeing more than 60 young people taking part across the two competitions was fantastic. The standard was incredibly high, but what stood out most was the way everyone supported each other and represented their Troops and Units with pride. These are exactly the kinds of experiences that help young people develop skills for life.”

A huge thank you goes to the volunteers who planned and delivered the events, as well as the leaders and parents who supported the young people throughout the competitions.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. Whether they returned home with a trophy or simply with new experiences and memories, every participant should be proud of their achievement.

We look forward to welcoming even more young people to next year’s competitions.
