More than 360 young people and over 100 volunteers came together at the weekend as Doncaster Danum Scouts hosted three major district events at Squirrel Wood Scout Campsite.
The packed weekend saw over 60 Squirrel Scouts, more than 140 Beaver Scouts and over 160 Cub Scouts take part in the Squirrel Fun Day, Beaver Challenge Day and Cub Challenge Day.
Held across two days at the district’s 72 acre woodland campsite in the heart of Doncaster, the events gave young people the opportunity to try new activities, build confidence, learn practical skills and enjoy the outdoors alongside Scouts from across the district.
Young people took part in a huge range of adventurous activities including inflatable assault courses, archery, rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing, bug hunting, fire lighting, pioneering, tent pitching and team based problem solving challenges.
The events were organised by the newly formed District Events Team as part of the ongoing development of Doncaster Danum Scouts under the leadership of District Lead Volunteer, David Plant.
The weekend also highlighted the continued growth of Scouting across Doncaster, with more young people than ever before taking part in adventurous outdoor activities and community based Scouting.
David Plant, District Lead Volunteer for Doncaster Danum Scouts, said:
“I can’t thank the volunteers who came together to run these events enough. The amount of planning, preparation and teamwork that went into the weekend was incredible.
Glynis Robinson and Chris Green did a fantastic job leading the events team and creating experiences that put smiles on the faces of hundreds of young people from across Doncaster.
Weekends like this show exactly what Scouting is all about — adventure, teamwork, confidence building and giving young people opportunities they will remember for years to come.”
Squirrel Wood Scout Campsite provided the perfect setting for the weekend. Located in the heart of Doncaster, the site spans more than 70 acres of woodland and outdoor space and plays a key role in delivering adventurous activities and outdoor learning opportunities for young people across the district.
The events form part of a wider programme of district activities being developed for young people across Doncaster Danum Scouts, with a strong focus on adventure, programme quality and creating unforgettable experiences for young people across all sections.
