Doncaster Danum Scouts have confirmed that PAPYRUS UK will be their nominated Charity of the Year for 2026, following a round of suggestions from volunteers across the District. The charity will first be supported through the collection at this year’s Festive Service in December.

Volunteers were asked earlier in the year to put forward charities they felt the District should champion. Past collections have supported Bluebell Wood, Doncaster Food Bank and the Children’s Deaf Society. This year the Trustee Board reviewed all submissions and agreed that PAPYRUS UK was the right choice for 2026.

PAPYRUS is a leading UK charity focused on promoting positive mental health in young people and preventing young suicide. It was founded in 1977 by a group of parents who wanted to create a place for support, advice and early intervention. Today, PAPYRUS delivers vital services, raises awareness and works with communities to keep young people safe.

The nomination came from Shaun McDermott of 1/36 Warmsworth Scout Group. In his submission he explained, “Given the near pandemic level of poor mental health in our young people today, and given our commitment to young people as an organisation, please can serious consideration be given to making PAPYRUS Danum’s nominated charity next year?”

Over the coming year we hope Groups will consider supporting PAPYRUS through fundraising and awareness activities. This will not only help the charity continue its work, it will also give young people opportunities to complete elements of their Fundraising and Community Impact badges.

We would love to hear how your Group plans to get involved. Share your events and activities with us and we will celebrate them across our channels as we work together to support young people in Doncaster and beyond.
