Doncaster Danum Scouts are pleased to open bookings for District Sailing Taster Sessions for 2026.
Delivered at Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre, these sessions give young people the opportunity to get out on the water and experience sailing as part of their Scouting journey.
Taster Session Details
- When: Saturdays, May to September
- Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
- Cost: £5 per young person
- Group Size: Maximum of 8 per session

All sessions are weather dependent and typically confirmed a few days in advance.
Who Can Take Part
Taster sessions are aimed at:

- Explorer Scouts (14–18)
Focusing on these age groups ensures young people can fully engage with the activity and get the most from the experience.
What to Expect
Sessions are delivered by an experienced district team using a mixed fleet of dinghies. Depending on conditions and experience levels, young people may sail individually, in pairs, or as part of a crew.
Safety is the priority at all times, with sessions adapted to suit weather conditions and participant ability.
Booking a Session
To ensure fair access across the district, sessions must be booked in advance.
Groups are encouraged to:
- Book early
- Plan for up to 8 young people per session
- Remain flexible due to weather conditions

Opening Access Across the District
We want to ensure opportunities like this are visible and accessible to all groups. Taster sessions provide a simple way for sections to experience sailing and take part in a well-established district activity.
Leaders are also welcome to visit a session in advance to see how it runs.
