Young people from 47th Edenthorpe Scouts and Pegasus Explorer Unit have made a meaningful difference this Christmas by donating more than 15 kilograms of essential toiletries to The Hygiene Bank.
After learning about hygiene poverty as part of their programme, the Scouts and Explorers decided to take action. They collected a wide range of brand-new toiletries and festive gift sets, before sorting, itemising, weighing and delivering them to one of The Hygiene Bank’s community partners. Their hard work means the items can be distributed quickly to families who need extra support this winter.
Representatives from The Hygiene Bank visited the section to thank the young people in person and praised their compassion and organisation.
Magda Jenkins, spokesperson for the 47th Edenthorpe Scouts, said:
“I’m incredibly proud of our Scouts for the effort and thought they put into this donation. They chose to support The Hygiene Bank because they wanted to help families locally who are struggling, especially at Christmas. The young people took ownership of the whole project and they should feel very proud of the difference they’ve made.”
The Hygiene Bank Doncaster works with community partners to support people experiencing hygiene poverty — ensuring access to essential items like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and sanitary products. Donations like this one form an important part of their Christmas appeal and help improve wellbeing for families across Doncaster.
This project is a powerful example of Scouting values in action and highlights how young people are making a positive impact in their local community.
