Doncaster Danum Scouts are pleased to announce the appointment of David Plant as the new District Lead Volunteer.
David will formally begin the role at the end of January, leading and supporting Scout Groups across Doncaster Danum and helping shape the district’s future direction.
Doncaster Danum District currently supports 1,245 members, with a clear ambition to grow to 1,500 members within the next three years, delivered through 25 strong and sustainable Scout Groups across the borough.
David brings a clear vision for Doncaster Danum, focused on sustainable growth, strong volunteer support and high quality programmes that help more young people achieve their top awards. His approach centres on building confident leadership teams, strengthening progression between sections and ensuring Scouting in Doncaster is visible, valued and closely connected to the local community.
David’s Scouting journey began as a young person at the 58th Doncaster Scout Group in Bessacarr. At the age of 14, he represented Doncaster at the World Scout Jamboree in Chile alongside five other Scouts from his group. Four years later, he returned to the World Scout Jamboree in Thailand, volunteering as part of the International Service Team and taking on a leadership role supporting the delivery of the event.
He now serves as Group Lead Volunteer at the 58th Doncaster Scout Group, where he has built a strong leadership team delivering a high quality youth shaped programme and supporting sustained growth.
David recently hosted the district’s Top Awards Presentation Day, celebrating the achievements of over 250 young people from across Doncaster Danum and recognising the commitment, effort and personal development of young people from all sections.
Speaking about his appointment, David said:
“Scouting gave me so many opportunities as a young person and I want to ensure today’s young people in Doncaster can access the same experiences, skills and sense of belonging.”
David is also keen to strengthen Scouting’s civic presence in Doncaster, including restoring traditional events such as St George’s Day parades through the town centre, helping young people feel proud of both Scouting and their town.
Further updates will be shared as David begins work with Group Lead Volunteers and the District Leadership Team.
